Renovation Update, Week of September 7:

Much has happened in the last four weeks of work, including the framing of the new walls of the St. Francis Room and surrounding meeting spaces, followed by the hanging of drywall. Things are taking shape, literally!

Higher noise levels due to concrete cutting: This week, from Tuesday, Sept. 8 until Friday, Sept. 11, parishioners should be aware there will louder noise than usual, as the concrete cutting of the CMU (Concrete Masonry Unit) load-bearing wall will be taking place. This is where windows will eventually be placed, looking into and out of the parish library as well as an office space. The good news is, construction personnel anticipate that the noise won't be quite as loud as initially anticipated. We were able to get a sampling of the noise when the floor boxes were being cut out of the concrete floors several weeks ago.

Renovation Update, Week of August 2:

The biggest detail of this week is our Blessing of the New Walls event on Tuesday, August 4, at 5:30 p.m.! All parishioners are invited and encouraged to take part as we bless the new walls of our parish meeting spaces!

In the renovation process of our downstairs meeting spaces, as we move from a phase of demolition into one of construction, we invite our parish community to mark this transition by blessing the framework of the new walls before they are filled in.

Before these walls are enclosed, we will ask God's blessing upon the spaces that will soon become places of catechesis and formation, prayer and community for all ages. Together, we will dedicate this space to the Lord, entrusting it to the Holy Spirit, through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, the Immaculate Conception.

Join us:

• Tuesday, August 4
• 5:30 p.m.
• in the Chapel lobby area.
• Please bring any sacramentals, cards or sticky notes with written messages of blessing, Scripture verses and prayers with which you would like to bless these walls.

Blessed medals and stamps will also be provided for those who would like to leave a sacramental but don’t have one on hand.

Renovation Update, Week of July 26:

Parishioners, please be advised that there will be some loud noise July 28-29 in the construction site, due to concrete cutting and jackhammering that is being done in the bathrooms and new meeting spaces of the St. Francis Room area. The noise will possibly present an interruption to those praying in the Chapel, and it might also be audible during the 12:10 p.m. Mass Tuesday.

Actualización sobre la renovación - Semana del 7 de septiembre:

Han sucedido muchas cosas en las últimas cuatro semanas de trabajo, incluida la instalación de la estructura de los nuevos muros de la Sala San Francisco y de los espacios de reunión adyacentes, seguida de la colocación de los paneles de yeso (drywall). ¡Las cosas están tomando forma, literalmente!

Actualización sobre las obras de renovación – Semana del 2 de agosto: 

En el proceso de renovación de nuestros espacios de reunión en la planta baja, al pasar de la fase de demolición a la de construcción, invitamos a nuestra comunidad parroquial a marcar esta transición bendiciendo la estructura de las nuevas paredes antes de que sean cerradas.

Antes de que estas paredes queden cerradas, pediremos la bendición de Dios para los espacios que pronto se convertirán en lugares de catequesis, formación, oración y comunidad para personas de todas las edades. Juntos, dedicaremos este espacio al Señor, encomendándolo al Espíritu Santo por intercesión de nuestra Santísima Madre María, la Inmaculada Concepción.

• a las 5:30 p.m.
• en el vestíbulo de la Capilla.

Actualización sobre las obras de renovación – Semana del 26 de julio: 

Se informa a los feligreses que, los días 28 y 29 de julio, habrá ruidos fuertes en la zona de obras debido a los trabajos de corte de hormigón y al uso de martillos neumáticos en los baños y en los nuevos espacios de reunión del área de la Sala San Francisco. Es posible que el ruido interrumpa a quienes estén orando en la capilla y que también se escuche durante la misa de las 12:10 p.m. del martes.

June 25, 2026 --

Starting July 1, our new parish office hours (at the St. Joseph Center) will go into effect. These new hours reflect an effort by the parish staff and Pastoral Council to offer greater availability at more convenient times for parishioners. Please note these changes, which are also listed in the graphic below:

• The parish office will be open the first Sunday of each month from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
• Wednesdays, it will be open an additional 1.5 hours, until 6 p.m.
• Fridays, the office will close 1 hour earlier, at 12 p.m.

The parish office will keep its usual schedule of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. the remainder of the week Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. The office is closed on Saturdays.

 A partir del 1 de julio, entrará en vigor el nuevo horario de la oficina parroquial (en el Centro San José). Este nuevo horario refleja el esfuerzo del personal de la parroquia y del Consejo Pastoral por ofrecer mayor disponibilidad en momentos más convenientes para los feligreses. Por favor, tome nota de estos cambios, que también se detallan en la imagen a continuación:

• La oficina parroquial abrirá el primer domingo de cada mes, de 11 a.m. a 1:30 p.m.
• Los miércoles, permanecerá abierta una hora y media más, hasta las 6 p.m.
• Los viernes, la oficina cerrará una hora antes, a las 12 p.m.

El resto de la semana — lunes, martes y jueves— la oficina parroquial mantendrá su horario habitual de 8:30 a.m. a 4:30 p.m. La oficina permanece cerrada los sábados.

June 26, 2026 -- 

Starting  Saturday, June 27, anyone who goes to the Sacrament of Confession will see a new setup. The goals with implementing these changes: Clarity with signage, line formation and what to expect in terms of number of priests!

The graphic below gives a visual of what to expect:

• During Confessions, there will now be a sign at the back of the church pews indicating whether there will be 1 or 2 priests hearing Confessions.
• There will be a default confessional, which is the one next to the 4th Station of the Cross (typically used by Fr. Andres).
• The line(s) for those waiting to enter the confessional(s) will now flow towards the front of the church along the stained glass window wall(s).
• There will be about 10 chairs on each side for those who are waiting in line and who need or prefer to sit while waiting.

A partir de mañana, sábado 27 de junio, quienes acudan al sacramento de la confesión encontrarán una nueva organización. El objetivo de estos cambios es ofrecer mayor claridad respecto a la señalización, la formación de la fila y el número de sacerdotes disponibles.

La siguiente imagen ilustra cómo funcionará el sistema:

• Durante las confesiones, habrá un letrero en la parte posterior de los bancos indicando si hay uno o dos sacerdotes atendiendo.
• Se utilizará un confesionario principal: el que se encuentra junto a la cuarta estación del Vía Crucis (habitualmente utilizado por el P. Andrés).
• La fila (o filas) de espera para los confesionarios avanzará ahora hacia la parte delantera del templo, recorriendo el espacio junto a las paredes con vitrales.
• Habrá unas 10 sillas a cada lado para las personas que estén esperando y necesiten o prefieran permanecer sentadas durante la espera.

We begin our parish renovation journey of preparing a beautiful and welcoming space.

As construction gets underway, there are several important details we need all parishioners to know, regarding parking, construction zone safety, change to the Chapel entrance, increased noise levels and more. Some aspects of parish life will change temporarily over the coming months, while many things will remain the same. Below are some key points and anticipated timeframes to help us navigate the months ahead.

Beginning June 25, 2026, the parking lot connected to Our Lady of Angels Chapel will only have 11 spots available for parishioners to use during the week. The remainder of the parking lot will be used for storing and parking the construction equipment necessary for the renovation process. Because most (7) of the available spots are handicap accessible and because they are the closest proximity to the elevator, we ask that parishioners who do not need to use the elevator park elsewhere; this is particularly imperative that we all observe this courtesy during Saturday and Sunday Masses as well as daily Mass times.

Update: Barringer Construction has been courteous to remove all their vehicles and equipment from the Chapel parking lot as they are able to on weekends so that parishioners can utilize those parking spaces that were not available during the work week. Some weekends, this may not be possible especially as they bring in larger equipment, but we encourage parishioners who need to utilize the elevator, accessed from the Chapel lobby, to double check each weekend to see if the full Chapel lot is open!

Regarding construction zone safety, there will be signage posted indicating the official no-entry construction zones. We ask ALL parishioners to respect and heed these direct guidelines.

As with any construction project, plans and timelines may shift along the way. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we all adapt to changing circumstances.

Parking for Sunday Masses (graphic below)

It is no secret that finding available parking at Immaculate Conception, particularly on Sundays for the last 3 scheduled Masses of the day, can be a test in patience and a cause of great trouble for many of our parishioners. Now, with the renovations beginning and most of the entire lower chapel-area parking lot unavailable to parishioners, parking will become even less convenient. It is one of the sacrifices we as a parish are asked to make during these renovations -- knowing the outcome will be worth it!

In the meantime, while we are awaiting that beautiful outcome, we have created a graphic (and bullet point explanation) of all available parking for parishioners for Sunday Masses. While we are limited with parking due to our location in downtown Hendersonville, we are also blessed to be within walking distance of not one but three banks -- all of which are closed on Sundays and have given our parishioners the "all clear" to utilize their business parking on Sundays and outside of their business hours only. We ask that you respect the timeframe and that as Catholics, we behave in a manner worthy of our name.

Bank parking available at:

• First Bank parking lot, accessed from Church Street directly across from the St. Joseph Center
• First Citizens Bank parking lot, accessed from 6th Avenue West
• Bank of America parking lot, accessed from 7th Avenue and N. Main Street

Street parking available on:

• Bearcat Boulevard (borders Hendersonville High) during the summer and on weekends
• Oakland Street (borders St. Gerard House and Immaculata playground)

Church parking available, as usual, at:

• Upper main church lot
• Side lot
• Penny Insurance lot (only outside of the business hours)
• St. Joseph Center lot (except for the 5 marked parking spots belonging to the Landmark Condominium building)
• Immaculata Catholic School main lot
• Immaculata's 2 lower lots

Additional parking is available at the City of Hendersonville parking garage, located at the corner of Church Street and 5th Avenue West. The exact address is 418 N. Church Street.

A partir del 25 de junio de 2026, el estacionamiento contiguo a la Capilla de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles (Our Lady of Angels Chapel) contará con solo 11 plazas disponibles para los feligreses. El resto del área se destinará al almacenamiento y estacionamiento de la maquinaria y el equipo de construcción necesarios para el proceso de renovación. Dado que la mayoría (7) de las plazas disponibles están adaptadas para personas con discapacidad y se encuentran más cerca del ascensor, solicitamos a los feligreses que no necesiten utilizar el ascensor que estacionen en otro lugar; es especialmente importante que todos observemos esta cortesía durante las misas de los sábados y domingos, así como en los horarios de misa diaria.

No es ningún secreto que encontrar estacionamiento disponible en la parroquia de la Inmaculada Concepción (Immaculate Conception), especialmente los domingos para las últimas tres misas programadas del día, puede poner a prueba la paciencia y causar grandes molestias a muchos de nuestros feligreses. Ahora, con el inicio de las obras de renovación y la mayor parte del estacionamiento de la zona inferior de la capilla fuera de servicio para los feligreses, aparcar resultará aún más complicado. Es uno de los sacrificios que se nos pide hacer como parroquia durante estas obras, ¡sabiendo que el resultado final valdrá la pena!

Mientras tanto, y a la espera de ese magnífico resultado, hemos preparado un gráfico (junto con una explicación detallada) que muestra todas las opciones de estacionamiento disponibles para los feligreses durante las misas dominicales. Aunque nuestras opciones de aparcamiento son limitadas debido a nuestra ubicación en el centro de Hendersonville, tenemos la suerte de estar a poca distancia a pie de tres bancos. Todos ellos cierran los domingos y han autorizado a nuestros feligreses a utilizar sus estacionamientos, siempre y cuando sea en domingo y fuera de su horario comercial. Important announcement regarding priest assignment:

The Most Reverend Michael T. Martin, OFM Conv., Bishop of Charlotte, announced May 8 that Rev. David O'Connor, who has served as Parochial Vicar at Immaculate Conception, is being transferred to a new assignment of Parochial Administrator at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Monroe, N.C. This transfer becomes effective on July 1, 2026.

It goes without saying that we are incredibly grateful to Fr. David for his dedicated ministry to our parish and to our school, and we will miss him dearly.

The parish will publish details soon about how we will celebrate Fr. David's departure. Please keep him in your prayers during this time of transition and be assured that information regarding his replacement will be forthcoming.

The two Brothers, now Deacons, who have served our parish faithfully for two years, were ordained as transitional Deacons in December 2025 at Immaculate Conception -- and now they are counting down the days until May 30, 2026, when they will be ordained Priests to serve in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charlotte!

Deacon Juan Gonzalez and Deacon Daniel Chaves are among the 10 men who will be ordained priests for our diocese, among the largest class to ever be ordained in Charlotte. In order to mark this joyous and pivotal moment in their lives with them, parishioners from the parish where Deacon Juan has been serving since December are hosting a luncheon for both Deacon Juan and Deacon Daniel. We have a limited number of spots for parishioners from Immaculate Conception to be able to also join.

SATURDAY, MAY 30: The Ordination Mass will take place at St. Mark Catholic Church in Huntersville at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 30. Click here to watch the livestream of the Mass.

SUNDAY, MAY 31: Future-Fr. Daniel will celebrate his first Mass at Immaculate Conception at 10 a.m. (English), and future-Fr. Juan will celebrate his first Mass at IC at 1:45 p.m. (Spanish). Following each Mass, parishioners will have the opportunity to go downstairs to the St. Francis Room to receive First Priestly Blessings from both priests. Light refreshments will be served.

Please continue to pray for all 10 men who will be ordained priests -- especially Deacon Daniel, Deacon Juan and Deacon James Tweed, who were all ordained Deacons here at IC in December 2025.

Whether you’re approached by someone while taking a stand for the pre-born, or whether it’s a relative at a family gathering, this training will help equip you to respond to their questions and statements in love and scientific-backed truth about the intrinsic evil and harm of abortion.

It is okay to be intimidated; but it is courage in the face of intimidation – courage to stand for truth, to speak up for those most vulnerable – that truly matters and is needed.

In a letter to parishioners in the March 15 bulletin, pastor Fr. Andres announced to the parish the church's gift to them for 2026: MORE COMMUNITY! Please read the letter below, in full: 

Beloved parishioners in the Lord and our Blessed Mother,

“Communion” is one of those words with such rich and layered content that it can truly be a guiding principle in life, a sort of “north star” compass in our pilgrimage through this world.  It was certainly such for the nascent Church, as St. John writes excitedly: “…that which we have seen and heard [i.e. Jesus and his life and teachings] we proclaim also to you, so that you may have communion with us; and our communion is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ” (1 Jn 1:3).  The Blessed Trinity is the eternal communion of the Divine Persons in love and beauty and truth and goodness and peace.  And St. John has just defined heaven and eternal bliss as communion with God…and we are invited!  I hope you can appreciate that created in the image and likeness of God, we, too, have been “programmed” for communion; we long and look for it…the experience of loving and being loved in the fullest sense of the word. 

But let’s not mistake communion for communication.  Communication can lead to communion, but it must be discerned and intentional.  Our culture and times will probably be known for the explosion in communications – as never in history have we been able to communicate the way we do today.  Sadly, however, we know from experience that more access to communications – from news to social media, to streaming content, to reels, to reaction platforms – rarely translates to more communion.  It seems we now live in a flood of communications that overstimulate and overload our capacity for focus, for real relationships, for listening and sharing, for meaningful effort, for deep joy – all required to build communion.  Scroll, swipe, click, stream, sip, refresh… these are not the actions required for communion, and when unchecked, they are the reflexes of digital bondage.  The result is not happiness, it’s dullness.   

So, what does build communion?  Community builds communion.  That is why Jesus founded a community: “Christ, the only Mediator, established in the world His Holy Church, community of faith, and hope and love” (Lumen Gentium, 8). Estimadas feligreses en el Señor y nuestra Santísima Madre,

“Comunión” es una de esas palabras con un contenido tan rico y complejo que puede ser un verdadero principio rector en la vida, una especie de brújula en nuestro peregrinar por este mundo. Ciertamente lo fue para la Iglesia naciente, como escribe con entusiasmo San Juan: “…lo que hemos visto y oído [es decir, Jesús, su vida y enseñanzas], os lo anunciamos también a vosotros, para que tengáis comunión con nosotros; y nuestra comunión es con el Padre y con su Hijo Jesucristo” (1 Jn 1,3). La Santísima Trinidad es la comunión eterna de las Divinas Personas en amor, belleza, verdad, bondad y paz. Y San Juan acaba de definir el cielo y la dicha eterna como la comunión con Dios… ¡y estamos invitados! Espero que podáis apreciar que, creados a imagen y semejanza de Dios, también nosotros hemos sido "programados" para la comunión; Lo anhelamos y buscamos…la experiencia de amar y ser amados en el más completo sentido de la palabra.

Pero no confundamos comunión con comunicación. La comunicación puede conducir a la comunión, pero debe ser discernida e intencional. Nuestra cultura y nuestra época probablemente serán conocidas por la explosión de las comunicaciones, como nunca antes en la historia hemos podido comunicarnos como lo hacemos hoy. Lamentablemente, sabemos por experiencia que un mayor acceso a las comunicaciones, desde las noticias hasta las redes sociales, pasando por el contenido en streaming, los reels y las plataformas de reacción, rara vez se traduce en una mayor comunión. Parece que ahora vivimos en un torrente de comunicaciones que sobreestimula y sobrecarga nuestra capacidad de concentración, de relaciones reales, de escuchar y compartir, de esfuerzo significativo, de alegría profunda; todo ello necesario para construir la comunión. Desplazarse, deslizar, hacer clic, transmitir, sorber, actualizar… estas no son las acciones necesarias para la comunión, y cuando no se controlan, son los reflejos de la esclavitud digital. El resultado no es felicidad, es aburrimiento.

Entonces, ¿qué construye la comunión? La comunidad construye la comunión. Por eso Jesús fundó una comunidad: “Cristo, el único Mediador, estableció en el mundo su Santa Iglesia, comunidad de fe, esperanza y amor” (Lumen Gentium, 8). En 2024, el regalo de la parroquia para ustedes fue “MÁS JESÚS.” En 2025, durante el Año Jubilar de la Esperanza, el regalo fue “MÁS ESPERANZA.” Este año, 2026, nuestra familia parroquial de la Iglesia Católica de la Inmaculada Concepción desea ofrecerles:

Catholics from around the Asheville Vicariate region will come together at Immaculate Conception on Tuesday, March 24, as our parish’s Culture of Life Ministry together with C-PLAN (Carolina Pro-Life Action Network) host a WNC Regional Pro-Life Mass at 12:10 p.m. followed by a Rosary.

March 24 is the chosen date, as it is the eve of the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord. This solemnity commemorates the very moment Jesus was conceived in the Blessed Virgin Mary’s womb — reinforcing that human life and its innate dignity begins at conception. It is a reminder that the God of the universe chose to enter humanity in the most vulnerable way, through a womb. Join us to pray for an end to abortion and that the dignity of all human life be upheld from conception until natural death!

El 24 de marzo ha sido la fecha elegida, ya que constituye la víspera de la Solemnidad de la Anunciación del Señor. Esta solemnidad conmemora el preciso momento en que Jesús fue concebido en el seno de la Santísima Virgen María, reafirmando así que la vida humana —y su dignidad intrínseca— comienza desde la concepción. In the third consecutive year post-Covid of offering a Healing Mass for all Catholic faithful on the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes on Feb. 11, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hendersonville saw a standing-room-only crowd that Wednesday afternoon.  

This feast day also corresponds with the World Day of the Sick, instituted in the Catholic Church in 1992 by Pope Saint John Paul II. 

All ages shared pews during what was for many a deeply moving, prayerful and personal experience. 

After a several-year gap, this tradition at Immaculate Conception was reinstated by Fr. Andres and Fr. David in 2024, and in its first year back, about 40 people sought the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick at the Mass. Last year, that number climbed to about 150 people.

On Feb. 11 this year, there were a documented 318 people who sought the Sacrament. In total, it is estimated that about 425 people attended the Mass. Although the church sanctuary has a capacity of nearly 900 people, every other row was blocked off to seating so that the priests could walk in those open pews to tend to each person. 

As former director of the Homebound Ministry Colin Thomas said before the Mass began, “We’ve never had this many people before.”

“We are all in desperate need of healing of body and mind and spirit; we crave it,” Colin later said. “Thankfully, Jesus knows our needs and He planned for that in His Sacraments. “

Growth was anticipated from 2025 to this year in those seeking the Sacrament; but more than doubling from last year’s number had organizers and the priests in awe.

In his homily, Fr. David O’Connor challenged everyone present to really look at aging, at pain, at unexpected sickness from the Christian perspective, even as something to be embraced both for each individual’s own salvation and holiness as well as that of those whom they love.

“When sickness comes and I say, ‘Ok, this is terrible, sickness is an evil’ – it wasn't in God's first plan – but with the life of faith, I say, ‘Okay, Lord, you want to grant me cancer, you want to grant me this? You will grant eternal life. That's what I want. And that means I can be with the people I love forever, and ever, and ever, and ever, and ever,’” said Fr. David. “This is what the Anointing of the Sick is supposed to help us to say.”

When in the midst of pain and suffering in life – which will come to everyone at some point – Fr. David said we should continue to turn to Jesus at every turn: “The idea is, ‘Lord, I give you my suffering.’”

He then read from a powerful litany, called the Litany of Compassion for the Sick.

“It's easy to talk about suffering and offering it up, but when you're in the middle of it? You need the grace of Christ to really be able to offer love..."

When pain or distress is overwhelming… Lord, I give You my suffering.
When the healing process goes slower than hoped… Lord, I give You my suffering.
When terrified by treatments for therapy… Lord, I give You my suffering.
When it’s hard to let go of long-held plans… Lord, I give You my suffering.
When the feeling of alienation arises… Lord, I give You my suffering.
When worn out and weary… Lord, I give You my suffering.
When troubled by impatience and negativity… Lord, I give You my suffering.
When loneliness adds to anxiety… Lord, I give You my suffering.

Most merciful Father, your beloved Son showed special compassion to lepers, tenderness to those long sick, and healing to the infirm laid before him. We place before you all those who are ill and in need of healing grace. May the love and mercy of the Divine Physician raise up all who suffer from sickness and restore them to health and peace. We ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Through this litany, so visceral and personal to many who have walked through the exact sufferings mentioned, Fr. David focused on the Catholic Church’s teaching on the pain and suffering we experience in our earthly bodies and lives – and how it’s an opportunity to unite it to Jesus Christ’s suffering.

“There's a huge spirituality behind that. What good was Jesus' pain humanly? Jesus’ pain saved us because He offered it to the Father for us, with love,” Fr. David said. “It’s the same with us; we can have suffering that's wasted, or we can have suffering that's united to Jesus Christ, for my salvation, and for the world. This is a beautiful thing.”

Confession was also offered leading up to Mass and even during Mass, as Fr. Andres continued to hear confessions until the point of the Laying on of Hands and the Anointing of the Sick.

“We get to experience the satisfaction of seeing how God works through priestly hands. That is immensely rewarding,” Fr. Andres said of the day. “The laying on of hands is a very intimate and personal experience.”

Even after the two-hour Mass, there were 15-20 people still seeking Confession, so Fr. Andres returned to the Confessional until everyone had come through.

“As this experience grows, we see the hunger for healing in the hearts of the faithful – all ages, all walks of life,” Fr. Andres said. “It’s amazing to witness how the Lord, through the power of the Sacraments (Confession, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Communion), strengthens and consoles His children.”

About Our Lady of Lourdes & World Day of the Sick

The 18 apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to young St. Bernadette at a grotto in Lourdes took place in 1858, and since that time, countless pilgrims and visitors to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes have experienced healing that they sought in faith at this site.

In his letter instituting World Day of the Sick, St. John Paul II wrote, in part, “May the Blessed Virgin, ‘Health of the Sick’ and ‘Mother of the Living,’ be our support and our hope and, through the celebration of the Day of the Sick, increase our sensitivity and dedication to those being tested, along with the trusting expectation of the luminous day of our salvation, when every tear will be dried forever (cf. Is 25:8). May it be granted to us to enjoy the first fruits of that day from now on in the superabundant joy — though in the midst of all tribulations (cf. 2 Cor 7:4) — promised by Christ which no one can take from us (Jn 16:22).”

Por tercer año consecutivo, tras la pandemia, ofreciendo una Misa de Sanación para todos los fieles Católicos en la festividad de Nuestra Señora de Lourdes, el 11 de febrero, la Iglesia Católica de la Inmaculada Concepción en Hendersonville abarrotó la misa ese miércoles por la tarde.

Esta festividad también coincide con la Jornada Mundial del Enfermo, instituida en la Iglesia Católica en 1992 por el Papa San Juan Pablo II.

Personas de todas las edades compartieron los bancos durante lo que para muchos fue una experiencia profundamente conmovedora, devota y personal.

Tras varios años de ausencia, esta tradición en la Inmaculada Concepción fue restablecida por los Padres Andrés y David en 2024, y en su primer año de regreso, unas 40 personas acudieron al Sacramento de la Unción de los Enfermos en la Misa. El año pasado, esa cifra ascendió a unas 150 personas.

El 11 de febrero de este año, se documentó que 318 personas acudieron al Sacramento. En total, se estima que unas 425 personas asistieron a la misa. Aunque el santuario de la iglesia tiene una capacidad para casi 900 personas, se reservaron asientos en cada fila para que los sacerdotes pudieran entrar en los bancos disponibles y atender a cada persona.

Luego leyó una poderosa letanía, llamada Letanía de Compasión por los Enfermos.

“Es fácil hablar del sufrimiento y ofrecerlo, pero ¿cuando estás en medio de él? Necesitas la gracia de Cristo para poder realmente ofrecer amor...”

A través de esta letanía, tan visceral y personal para muchos que han pasado por los mismos sufrimientos mencionados, P. David se centró en la enseñanza de la Iglesia Católica sobre el dolor y el sufrimiento que experimentamos en nuestros cuerpos y vidas terrenales, y cómo es una oportunidad para unirlo al sufrimiento de Jesucristo.

“Hay una gran espiritualidad detrás de eso. ¿De qué servía humanamente el dolor de Jesús? El dolor de Jesús nos salvó porque lo ofreció al Padre por nosotros, con amor,” dijo P. David. “Con nosotros es lo mismo; podemos tener un sufrimiento inútil, o podemos tener un sufrimiento unido a Jesucristo, por mi salvación y por la del mundo. Esto es algo hermoso.”

También se ofreció confesión antes de la Misa e incluso durante la misma, mientras el P. Andrés seguía confesando hasta la Imposición de Manos y la Unción de los Enfermos.

“Experimentamos la satisfacción de ver cómo Dios obra a través de las manos sacerdotales. Es inmensamente gratificante,” dijo el P. Andrés sobre ese día. “La imposición de manos es una experiencia muy íntima y personal.”

The liturgical season of Lent began with Ash Wednesday on February 18, 2026. For these next 40 days, Immaculate Conception is offering many opportunities for the Catholic faithful to make this time of prayer, fasting and almsgiving truly what it is meant to be. This includes three times to pray the Stations of the Cross as a community each Friday (see below), as well as "Stations & Soup," which is the combination of the 5 p.m. Stations of the Cross followed by a delicious (meatless) soup dinner in the St. Francis Room! We would be honored and blessed to have you join us.

**As usual each week, the times for Confession are as follows:

• Tuesday: 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
• Wednesday: 5-6:15 p.m.
• Thursday: 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
• Saturday: 9:15-11 a.m.

During the 40 days of Lent, Stations of the Cross takes place every Friday, twice in English and once in Spanish.

• 11:15 a.m. (before 12:10 p.m. Mass)
• 5 p.m. (with a soup dinner to follow)
• 7:15 p.m. (in Spanish, after Spanish Mass at 6:30 p.m.)

What is it?
Stations and Soup is a community time of praying the Stations of the Cross in the main church at 5 p.m., followed by a soup dinner of a delicious variety offered by various groups and ministries within our parish.

When and Where is it?
Each Friday around 5:30 p.m., many parishioners who finish praying the 5 p.m. Stations walk down to the St. Francis Room to a variety of hot soups offered, cooked by members of various ministries and groups in our parish! The soups are all meatless, so to observe the Friday abstinence from meat.

Donations to these groups are accepted during the soup dinner as a way to say thank you and support the ministries of those who took the time to generously cook for us! The groups represented this year will be the Women's Guild, Knights of Columbus, Faith Formation and Immaculata Catholic School.

HENDERSONVILLE - Visitors to Immaculata Catholic School on Thursday, Feb. 12, took “A Walk Through Time” to learn the history of the educational facility and celebrate its centennial.

“It’s finally here!” said Principal Margaret Beale. “Our ‘Walk Through Time’ is our kick-off event for our 100-year celebration.”

During both the morning hours and a second event offered in the evening, visitors moved from classroom to classroom to hear students reflect on the most significant events during their assigned decade while explaining school artifacts.

“The tour was wonderful,” said Joanne Savage. “My husband and I have been supporters of the school for years and years.”

Started by nuns in 1926 at a house that still stands in Hendersonville, the school moved to its current location in 1961; several expansions and renovations followed. One thing about the school hasn’t changed: a quality Catholic education for students in grades Pre-K through 8.

“What I love most about Immaculata are my teachers and my classmates,” said Natalia Corona Montiel, an eighth grader, underscoring how much she will miss the tight-knit faith community when she begins high school in the fall.

Dozens of visitors, including Dr. Greg Monroe, superintendent of schools for the Diocese of Charlotte, completed their tour in about 45 minutes during the morning. The evening timeslot for "A Walk Through Time" saw even more visitors, as student "ambassadors" led groups of 8-10 on a tour that landed them in each classroom while students from that particular grade presented on a specific decade. 

Visitors, including many past graduates even dating back to the 1950s as well as former teachers at the school, enjoyed viewing an abundance of hundreds of photos from over the years, with the invitation to write down their name or names of others if they spotted themselves in any images! Current students also enjoyed seeing how uniforms have changed over the years -- and how their current school building has been a staple in the community since way before they were born.

“It has been so fun seeing parishioners and alumni visit our school and share their memories of their time here,” said Beale. “We are so blessed to be part of Immaculata’s story.”

Thursday's event was postponed from late January due to two consecutive weeks of ice and snow storms in the area.

Another “Walk Through Time” is expected in May. Stay tuned for details on that in case you missed the kickoff event!

In 1992, Pope Saint John Paul II instituted the World Day of the Sick, and he chose February 11 as the annual date so that it corresponds with the Feast Day of Our Lady of Lourdes, to be "a special time of prayer and sharing, of offering one's suffering for the good of the Church and of reminding everyone to see in his sick brother or sister the face of Christ who, by suffering, dying and rising, achieved the salvation of mankind.” The 18 apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to young St. Bernadette at a grotto in Lourdes took place in 1858, and since that time, countless pilgrims and visitors to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes have experienced healing that they sought in faith at this site.

In his letter instituting World Day of the Sick, St. John Paul II wrote, in part:
“May the Blessed Virgin, ‘Health of the Sick’ and ‘Mother of the Living,’ be our support and our hope and, through the celebration of the Day of the Sick, increase our sensitivity and dedication to those being tested, along with the trusting expectation of the luminous day of our salvation, when every tear will be dried forever (cf. Is 25:8). May it be granted to us to enjoy the first fruits of that day from now on in the superabundant joy — though in the midst of all tribulations (cf. 2 Cor 7:4) — promised by Christ which no one can take from us (Jn 16:22).”

Details for Healing Mass at Immaculate Conception on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2026

As Catholics observe the World Day of the Sick each year on the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, which falls on Wednesday, Feb. 11, so, too, does our parish offer a special Healing Mass on this day.

This Mass specifically features the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, which is administered to individuals suffering from physical, emotional, or mental illness. It is also administered to those having surgery, even routine procedures. In addition, the sacrament is appropriate for elderly weakened by advanced age or suffering from chronic or long-term illnesses. Anyone struggling or recovering from alcoholism or other addictions can also be anointed, as can individuals being treated with chemotherapy, radiation, or physical therapies.

If you or someone you know would like to receive this Sacrament during this Mass, please make sure to attend.

WHEN: Wednesday, February 11, at 12:10 p.m.
WHERE: Immaculate Conception Catholic Church

NOTE: As it is morally necessary for any person seeking the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, as well as the Sacrament of the Eucharist, to be in a state of grace, the Sacrament of Confession will be offered for one hour prior to Mass, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., especially for those homebound brothers and sisters who are able to attend this special Mass in person. Como cada año, los católicos conmemoran el Día Mundial del Enfermo en la Fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Lourdes, que este año cae en miércoles 11 de febrero. Nuestra parroquia también ofrecerá una Misa de Sanación especial en esta fecha.

Esta Misa incluye el Sacramento de la Unción de los Enfermos, que se administra a personas que sufren de enfermedades físicas, emocionales o mentales. También se administra a quienes se someten a cirugía, incluso a procedimientos de rutina. Además, el sacramento es apropiado para personas mayores debilitadas por la edad o que padecen enfermedades crónicas o de larga duración. In response to the nationwide legalization of abortion by the U.S. Supreme Court on January 22, 1973, when the Supreme Court legalized abortion in its companion decisions Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, the Catholic Church has established January 22 each year as the National Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children (General Instruction of the Roman Missal 373).

This is a day set apart for “prayer for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life and of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion.” (GIRM 373)

Since the legalization of abortion in America, millions of children’s lives have been ended in the womb, and millions of women and families have been wounded by abortion. Since the overturning of Roe v. Wade by the Supreme Court in 2002, abortion is still legal in all but 13 states.

Let us join together on this day of prayer and penance as one body of Christ, both nationally and locally, to pray for a complete end to the violence of abortion on the most vulnerable of human life created and given by God the Creator, in His goodness. Let us also pray for a deep conversion of hearts to respect and uphold the dignity of all life from the moment of conception until natural death.

En respuesta a la legalización del aborto a nivel nacional por parte del Tribunal Supremo de los Estados Unidos el 22 de enero de 1973, con las decisiones complementarias del Tribunal Supremo en los casos Roe contra Wade y Doe contra Bolton, la Iglesia Católica ha establecido el 22 de enero de cada año como el Día Nacional de Oración por la Protección Legal de los Niños No Nacidos (Instrucción General del Misal Romano 373). Registration is now open for two silent weekend retreats on back-to-back weekends – the first in Spanish, led by Fr. David, and the second weekend in English, led by Fr. Andres – in the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola! Space is limited.

The retreat in Spanish, led by Fr. David, will be February 6-8, from Friday evening at 6 p.m. to Sunday at 4 p.m., at Cragmont Camp & Retreat Center in Black Mountain.

The retreat in English, led by Fr. Andres, will be February 13-15, from Friday evening at 6 p.m. to Sunday at 4 p.m., also at Cragmont Camp & Retreat Center in Black Mountain.

For both retreats, the cost is $150 per person for the two-night stay plus all meals at the retreat center.

The wait is over! Have you seen the new design of the sanctuary for our Faith Endures Here campaign? After many months of a pause as the necessary time was taken to prayerfully consider parishioner feedback and allow the lead architect to fuse that with a scaled-back vision, we invite you to view the images below, with descriptions under each one.

The downstairs renovation will begin in Spring 2026, and the upstairs sanctuary renovation will follow, in the summer or early fall. As we mentioned in our November communication to the parish, the permits and construction documents are being generated this winter. More exact timeframes will be given as they become clearer.

We know you will appreciate seeing through the updated design how we have listened to the feedback of parishioners and how the architects still captured the essence of a beautiful design for our beloved parish. As you can see in the images below, the design has been simplified in several ways, reflecting our commitment to scaling back certain components in order to incorporate and reflect the meaningful feedback and work within our established budget. 

We will continue to keep you updated on timelines and any news that is pertinent to this renovation project! Thank you for your patience, and please continue to pray for this renovation we will soon be undertaking as a parish community!

Renderings below of the Sanctuary design have been provided by Baker Studios, Inc.: 

The Baldacchino columns have been replaced by a simplified framing structure with elegant columns that focus the attention on the hanging Crucifix of our Lord Jesus and the Tabernacle. It fits perfectly into the design language of the altar.

As stated above, the Crucifix of Our Lord will hang, rather than being affixed to the rock wall behind it (as in the original design). This will allow for the lighting positioned on the Crucifix to now produce two shadows to the right and left of it, drawing the mind to Calvary, where the Crucifix of Jesus stood between two others. 

The Crucifix has been lowered, and the simple but elegant framing structure has been added to focus the liturgical features — the Holy Spirit dove, Crucifix, Tabernacle, Altar of Repose — uniting them and drawing the heart and mind to the center of our worship, to the place where the Eucharist rests. The Holy Spirit dove (now smaller) will remain at the top of the arch, as in the original design.  

 The shrines of Our Lady and St. Joseph will remain the same as in the original renovation design, as will the placement of the baptismal font.

La renovación de la planta baja comenzará en la primavera de 2026, y la renovación del santuario de la planta superior seguirá en verano o a principios de otoño. Como mencionamos en nuestra comunicación de noviembre a la parroquia, los permisos y los documentos de construcción se están generando este invierno. Se darán plazos más exactos a medida que se vayan aclarando.

Sabemos que apreciarán ver en el diseño actualizado cómo hemos escuchado los comentarios de los feligreses y cómo los arquitectos han sabido captar la esencia de un hermoso diseño para nuestra querida parroquia.

December 15, 2025 -- 

The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe at Immaculate Conception parish was filled with both celebration and solemn Mass and prayer as parishioners showed their deep devotion to Our Lady. She is the patroness of the Americas, of Mexico and of unborn children.

Thursday, Dec. 11 closed with a solemn vigil Mass, followed by a holy hour of Eucharistic Adoration filled with prayer and a brief talk about The Virgin of Guadalupe before benediction.

Friday morning, Dec. 12, at 6 a.m., an estimated 400-500 parishioners poured into the main church to take part in "Las Mananitas," an hour of songs and prayers of devotion offered in love and praise to greet the Virgin Mary on her feast.

The flowers also poured in, laid at the feet of Our Lady, boasting beautiful bright colors and fresh scents.

Mass at 12:10 p.m. celebrated Our Lady of Guadalupe, and then at 5:30 p.m., Fr. Andres led an outdoor procession with a statue of Our Lady around the grounds of the church while those processing prayed the Rosary.

At 6:30 p.m., Mass in Spanish was celebrated, which then closed a full 24 hours of celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe!

La Fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe en la Parroquia de la Inmaculada Concepción estuvo llena de celebración, misa solemne y oración, mientras los feligreses mostraban su profunda devoción a Nuestra Señora. Ella es la patrona de América, de México y de los niños por nacer.

El jueves 11 de diciembre concluyó con una solemne misa de vigilia, seguida de una hora santa de adoración eucarística llena de oración y una breve charla sobre la Virgen de Guadalupe antes de la bendición.

El viernes 12 de diciembre, a las 6 de la mañana, entre 400 y 500 feligreses se congregaron en la iglesia principal para participar en “Las Mañanitas,” una hora de cantos y oraciones de devoción ofrecidas con amor y alabanza para saludar a la Virgen María en su fiesta.

También se entregaron numerosas flores, depositadas a los pies de Nuestra Señora, con hermosos colores vivos y aromas frescos.

A las 12:10 p.m. se celebró la misa en honor a Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe y, a las 5:30 p.m., el Padre Andrés encabezó una procesión al aire libre con una estatua de Nuestra Señora alrededor de los terrenos de la iglesia, mientras los participantes rezaban el rosario.

A las 6:30 p.m. se celebró la Misa en español, con lo que se cerró las 24 horas de celebración de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe.

For one day only, on Wednesday, Dec. 10, our parish will host the first-class relics of St. Anthony of Padua! (See below for the schedule.)

Friars from the Pontifical Basilica travel worldwide with the holy and first-class relics of beloved Saint Anthony. Over the past 10 years, Saint Anthony’s Friars have visited 249 parishes across 18 states in the U.S. They have preached and concelebrated at 458 Holy Masses in the U.S. When not on the road, these Holy Relics are housed at the Basilica of Saint Anthony in Padua, Italy.

Fr. Mario, the Friar traveling with the relics, will bring two reliquaries: One contains layers of skin of Saint Anthony’s cheek, while the other is free-standing one containing a fragment of the Saint’s floating rib. These two first-class relics were venerated by Pope Francis, Saint Mother Teresa, Saint John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI, and Servant of God, Sister Lucia of Fatima. 

"Our focus is in allowing your parishioners to venerate the relics," the friars wrote in an email to the parish. "We pass out prayer petitions and holy cards, as is the worldwide tradition, and people write their intentions to St Anthony before veneration. We provide the petition cards, pens and we also pass out lovely holy cards of Saint Anthony of Padua with a beautiful prayer. The tour ends back at the tomb of Saint Anthony in Padua, Italy, where Fr. Mario and the friars will gather and recite prayers for the saint's intercession on the petitions and intentions."

¡Solo por un día, el miércoles 10 de diciembre, nuestra parroquia acogerá las reliquias de primera clase de San Antonio de Padua! (Consulte el calendario más abajo).

Los frailes de la Basílica Pontificia viajan por todo el mundo con las reliquias sagradas y de primera clase del querido San Antonio. Durante los últimos 10 años, los frailes de San Antonio han visitado 249 parroquias en 18 estados de los Estados Unidos. Han predicado y concelebrado 458 misas en los Estados Unidos. Cuando no están de viaje, estas reliquias sagradas se conservan en la Basílica de San Antonio en Padua, Italia.

El padre Mario, el fraile que viaja con las reliquias, llevará dos relicarios: uno contiene capas de piel de la mejilla de San Antonio, mientras que el otro es independiente y contiene un fragmento de la costilla flotante del santo. Estas dos reliquias de primera clase fueron veneradas por el papa Francisco, Santa Madre Teresa, San Juan Pablo II, el papa Benedicto XVI y la Sierva de Dios, Sor Lucía de Fátima.
